An Ice Skating Tragedy
25 February 2021 (Updated 9 September 2021)
A tragedy in 1917 is said to have left a supernatural mark on Eastleigh House, New Street, Deddington.
Two young boys from the Bowler family, John, aged 13 and Cyril aged 16 were ice skating on the Mill Pond in nearby Clifton when the ice cracked and they were both drowned.
Eastleigh House (previously Bowler House) is said to be haunted by the sound of a woman weeping, thought to be either a maid or the boy's mother on hearing of the death of her son.
